Malvern attic jewellery collection sells in London

The Mirror reported that a collection of jewellery kept for decades in a grandmother’s attic in Worcestershire has sold at auction in London, in "Grandma's jewellery collection lay hidden in dusty attic for decades sells for more than £500K" (external source).

The Mirror said the collection sold for £506,570 on 21 October. It said the auctioneers had valued it at around £150,000.

What was in the collection

According to The Mirror, the jewellery was found during a house clearance in Malvern earlier this year. It said the pieces include antique Art Deco jewels, diamond pieces, signed Cartier jewellery and a number of Victorian brooches.

The Mirror said the collection was built up over generations of the same family. It first belonged to the present owner’s grandmother, and later generations added inherited pieces before it was stored in the attic and forgotten.

What the auctioneer said

Joe Kendrick, head of sale at Elmwood’s Auctions, said: "We are absolutely delighted with the spectacular result achieved by this remarkable collection". He said the result showed "the enduring appeal of fine antique and Art Deco jewellery".

The Mirror quoted him as saying that, from the signed Cartier jewels to "the charming Victorian animal brooches", the collection offered something for collectors around the world.
